5 Best Suit Shops in New Zealand That’ll Have You Looking Sharp

  • Suit Quality: We chose shops that offer well-made suits with quality fabrics and neat stitching that hold up well over time.
  • Range: We focused on shops that provide a wide selection of styles, sizes, and colours to suit different body types and tastes.
  • Customer Service: We looked for shops where staff are friendly, knowledgeable, and genuinely helpful with fittings and styling advice.
  • Pricing: We considered whether the prices matched the quality and whether the shop offered good value across different budgets.
  • Tailoring Service: We checked if the shops provide in-house tailoring or alterations so the suits fit you perfectly.

Once a formal event pops up, some people instantly reach for a suit. It works for pretty much any occasion, and anyone can pull it off, no matter the gender. But let’s be honest: you either own the look, or the suit wears you. The secret? It’s all in the suit.

It should fit like it was made just for you—no weird bulges, no stiff shoulders, no awkward hems. When your suit looks premium, you look premium. The problem is, not every shop gets it right.

But don’t worry! We’ve done the research and found the best suit shops in New Zealand. So if you’re still unsure where to go, keep reading.

How much do suits cost in New Zealand?

Suits in New Zealand can cost around NZD $150 for the basic ones, while better-quality or designer suits can go over NZD $1,000. The price depends on the brand, fabric, and how much it’s tailored to fit you.

Dorset Suits is big in the Waikato region. If you ask around about where to get a quality suit (especially for weddings or formal events), they almost always come up.

The showroom spaces are relaxed but professional. Even the staff has a good balance between knowledgeable and approachable.

One of the most impressive things about them is their custom service. You don’t just get to choose between slim and regular fit. You’re invited to go deep into the details: fabric, cut, stitching style, etc.

Fittings are by appointment only, so when you’re there, it’s just you and a staff member who knows what they’re doing. If you’re not a suit expert, they’ll even guide you through it.

The hire packages are also clear and simple. Also, if you need a quick alteration, they often do it while you wait. That’s a lifesaver for last-minute events.

We also appreciated that they’re not just about guys. Dorset also makes tailored suits for women and offers hire options for teens heading to school balls.

That said, their refund and exchange policy is tight. You’ve got 30 days, and that’s it. If your plans change, you might be out of luck.

Pros

  • Strong local reputation
  • Relaxed but professional showrooms
  • Purchase or hire options
  • Custom-made available
  • One-on-one appointments
  • Fast alterations
  • Inclusive offerings

Cons

  • Strict refund policy

The fitting process was smooth, and the staff were helpful throughout

“Had an amazing experience at Dorset Suits. The fitting process was smooth, and the staff were friendly, incredibly patient, and helpful throughout. They gave great recommendations on which ties would work well with different shirts, which made everything much easier. Their pricing is very reasonable, too. Would 100% recommend Dorset Suits to anyone looking for a suit for a school ball or any formal event.”

The shop was clean, and the suit I’m renting looks great

“I came in last minute right before closing, but they were still super friendly and helpful. They took the time to get my sizing right and made the whole process really easy. The shop was clean, and the suit I’m renting looks great. Huge thanks to the owners for helping me out on such short notice. 100% recommended.”

Thursday to Friday: 9 AM – 9 PM

Saturday: 9 AM – 7 PM

Sunday: 10 AM – 7 PM

The best thing about Politix Newmarket is definitely their staff. When we spoke to clients, names like Veronica and Alex came up a lot.

They’re friendly and very hands-on. They take the time to figure out what you need, offer style advice, and help you feel confident in your choices. Even during busy times, they seemed to juggle multiple clients without rushing anyone.

Another standout is their fitting rooms. They’re larger than average, which makes trying on full outfits easier. There’s space to move around and lay things out.

When it comes to selection, they have a wide and versatile range of styles. They seem to have most occasions covered. The materials look and feel premium, and the colour palettes strike a nice balance between timeless and on-trend.

However, there’s a limitation. They don’t offer in-house tailoring or alterations. It’s a bummer if you found the perfect suit style here, but it doesn’t fit you.

If your pants need adjusting or your jacket needs tweaking, you’ll have to take it elsewhere. We do appreciate that the staff recommends local tailors, though.

Pros

  • Excellent staff
  • Great customer service
  • Efficient during busy times
  • Spacious changing rooms
  • Wide and versatile selection
  • High-quality materials
  • Balanced style range

Cons

  • No in-house tailoring or alterations
  • Purely off-the-rack shopping

OPERATING HOURSMonday to Friday: 9 AM – 6 PM

Saturday: 10 AM – 5 PM

Rembrandt is like a full-service suit workshop. You can buy off the rack or go for made-to-measure suits. Even if you pick something pre-made, they’ll still tailor it for you.

We checked out the fabrics, and there’s no denying they’re soft, well-finished, and made to last. Most are from Italian mills, which explains the quality.

One piece that caught our attention was their ultra-stretch merino suit. It feels like wearing a tracksuit but still looks sharp. It’s a weird combo, yes, but it works.

They also have an online 3D configurator that lets you build your suit before even setting foot in the store. You can play around with fabrics, cuts, and all the little details.

We find their innovative mindset so refreshing. Even though they’ve been around a long time, it’s clear they’re focused on growing and evolving.

The staff are also super helpful. Most clients said they’re not pushy and make their shopping experiences feel relaxed.

The elephant in the room would be the price. Rembrandt isn’t cheap. But the quality and service make it worth it if you care about fit and longevity.

If you plan to come back, their VIP membership gives 25% off alterations, which helps a bit.

Pros

  • Full-service experience
  • High-quality materials
  • Innovative options
  • 3D configurator
  • Great customer service
  • Forward-thinking
  • VIP perks

Cons

  • Higher price range

Didn’t try to discourage me, only wanted me to find what I might need

“Looking for a rental and had a fairly friendly and understanding conversation with the man there; he has a unique personality, which I can see how some other reviews might have seen it otherwise, so I went in letting him lead with advice. Showed me a few different options and even talked about what other businesses might have what I’m looking for, and what made this a trusting relationship is that he didn’t try to discourage me, only wanted me to find what I might need.”

Did not feel pressured and completed the whole process in less than 30 minutes

“Excellent service from Serge, he took the time to take my measurements and suggested alterations to the Suit to fit my body type whilst being mindful of customer preference. I did not feel pressured at all and completed the whole process in less than 30 minutes.”

4. Frank Casey

CONTACT DETAILS+64 9 524 4275
OPERATING HOURSMonday to Friday: 10 AM – 5 PM

Saturday: 10 AM – 4 PM

Sunday: Closed

One of the most consistent things we heard about Frank Casey was how their team handles time pressure. Whether it’s a groom leaving things to the last minute or someone walking in on the day of an event, the staff stay calm and helpful.

A story that stuck with us involved a staff member successfully guessing a groomsman’s measurements based on a photo. If that doesn’t impress you, we’re not sure what will.

We also appreciate how the staff help you find a suit that fits your body and suits the occasion you’re going to.

Fittings can be done in under 20 minutes, and if you’ve been there before, they keep your measurements on file. That saves you time the next time around.

As for the suits themselves, they’ve got over 20 styles available for hire, including some that are custom-made for their shop.

You’ll find everything from classic tuxedos to more relaxed modern cuts. They also do a great job catering to all shapes and sizes, including big and tall options.

That said, the range of suits for sale felt a bit limited. There are a few options, but if you’re hoping to browse a wide selection to buy, you might find it underwhelming.

Pros

  • Excellent under pressure
  • Impressive fitting skills
  • Quick service
  • Repeat visits made easy
  • Good variety for hire
  • Inclusive sizing
  • Styles for different occasions

Cons

  • Not a lot of suits for sale

From start to finish, they’re service was amazing

“Went in to hire a suit for my son’s school ball. From start to finish, they’re service was amazing. They understood the theme my son was going for. He looked amazing for his ball. Thank you, Frank Casey. Highly recommend.”

You can trust these guys to be onto it; they were so good to us!

“These guys were brilliant for our wedding! My now husband left the organising of the suits very late and was very picky about colour. Frank Casey was so incredibly helpful! They were quick to respond, and the suits were excellent quality and very reasonably priced. One of the groomsmen never got me his measurements, and so Rachel managed to guess accurately from photos; the groom’s party looked great. You can trust these guys to be onto it, they were so good to us!”

OPERATING HOURSMonday to Friday: 9 AM – 5:30 PM

Saturday: 10 AM – 5 PM

Man to Man isn’t a general menswear store with a bit of everything. They’re focused on Hugo Boss, and they stick to it.

So instead of digging through a mix of brands, you’re shown a well-curated selection of suits that range from clean business cuts to modern fits. Everything looks polished, and nothing feels like filler stock.

The staff here are worth a mention too. They’re helpful, honest, and clearly know the Hugo Boss range inside and out.

One of our team members asked about the fit differences between two suits. Instead of vague answers, the staff explained how each cut sits on the shoulders and how it wears over time.

Even better, they weren’t pushy. We didn’t get the feeling they were trying to upsell us or hurry us along.

The suits are top quality. Hugo Boss doesn’t mess around when it comes to materials, and this shop stocks pieces made from New Zealand merino wool and other premium fabrics.

But let’s talk about price. It’s not cheap. So if you’re after something quick and affordable, this probably isn’t the shop for you. Also, because they only sell Hugo Boss, the style range is a bit limited.

Pros

  • Specialised in Hugo Boss
  • Curated selection
  • Knowledgable staff
  • No pressure selling
  • Premium materials
  • Polished look

Cons

  • Higher price point
  • Limited brand variety

They have a great range of suits and shirts

“Have been shopping here for years. Dave and the team are fantastic, a great range of suits and shirts, also great for kitting out our wedding party, highly recommended.”

Would definitely recommend!

“The nicest suit buying experience I’ve had. Was in the market for a wedding tuxedo and when I went into Man to Man Robyn and David’s service was incredible. Also great service with the hemming. Would definitely recommend!”
