I visited The Butcher Baker not too long ago and really enjoyed their thoughtfully crafted menu. It changes weekly to highlight seasonal, locally sourced produce.

The dishes are cooked in a wood-fired oven, giving everything a subtle smoky flavor that makes the fresh ingredients stand out even more.

Some of their best-sellers include the chickpea socca and the zucchini flowers stuffed with crayfish. My personal favorite was the English muffin with whipped brie, anchovies, fig leaf oil, and a soft-boiled egg. It was a surprisingly balanced mix of flavors.

In the evening, the menu shifts to sharing-style dishes, with highlights like the charcoal-baked pumpkin with jerk-seasoned wild mushrooms. Everything felt fresh, seasonal, and carefully prepared.

Beyond the food, the staff were friendly and helpful, especially when it came to dietary needs like gluten-free options or allergies.

The only downside is that it’s quite popular, so booking ahead is pretty much essential if you want to make sure you get a table.

I popped into The Ville Turkish Cafe in Helensville during a busy lunchtime and had to wait a few minutes for a table, but the staff were really friendly and made me feel at ease while I browsed their offerings.

While looking around, I also noticed the cafe is clean and cozy, which made me settle in easily.

The focus is on authentic Turkish Food with a Kiwi twist. Everything felt fresh, with in-house marinades that really brought out the flavors.

Portions are generous too, so even one plate leaves you feeling satisfied. One dish I really enjoyed was the lamb kebab, as it was perfectly seasoned. The freshly baked bread and house-made dips made the meal feel complete. 

They also have options like grilled chicken, falafel, and fresh salads, so there’s something for everyone.

I just wish they added more seating, as it tends to fill up quickly during peak hours—especially around 12 PM to 1 PM and 6 PM to 7 PM.

“First time stopping in and was really impressed. We ordered two lamb kebabs with spicy sauce and two sides of chips. The kebabs were packed with flavour, and the spicy sauce had just the right kick. The chips were spot on – crispy, not soggy at all. The café itself was very clean and well presented, and you could tell it was run well. There was a few people before us but the food came out quickly, and the staff were friendly and welcoming. Parking right out front made it super convenient too. All-round great experience. Definitely a place I’d go back to.”

“After reading and hearing all the amazing feedback from the local community, I had to try a Burger and Chips. The Chicken Burger was Huge and full of Real ingredients, I went with the Chicken Aloha Burger. The seasoning was perfect, the flavor combinations with bacon and pineapple were exciting and filling! *Real Chicken lovely and Tender, the salad components all fresh and crispy. I couldn’t finish all the chips myself, the aoli sauce just topped it all off well. Highly Recommend!! If your passing through Hellensville, pop in and try one of their meals. WOW Sushi made it to my list because it has a loyal customer base. Part of the appeal is their wide range of sushi rolls, from classics to vegetarian-friendly options. 

The Teriyaki Avocado and Cream Cheese roll, for example, was fresh and flavorful. The ingredients feel high-quality and thoughtfully prepared, and you can tell the team puts care into every roll.

I also liked that the staff were happy to customize my order exactly how I wanted, whether it was adjusting ingredients or spice levels. That kind of attentiveness helps explain why so many people keep coming back.

Along with the food, the cafe itself is simple and clean, with a relaxed vibe that makes it easy to pop in for a quick lunch or takeout. I noticed they use plastic-free packaging, which is a nice touch if you’re eco-conscious.

That said, the restaurant doesn’t take credit cards, which can be inconvenient if you prefer cashless payments.

Outstanding, high-quality sushi

“I have eaten sushi in almost every town I’ve visited from Bluff to Kaitaia. This is easily my favourite sushi place in the country. The price is unbelievable for the quality of sushi. The store owner is wonderful aswell, a kind talkative man who is passionate about his business. The steamed buns and fried prawns were also the best I’ve ever had. I’m from Wellington but I would happily take a road trip to Helensville for the sole purpose of getting this sushi, it’s that good.”

We all know Thai food is seriously delicious, and KhaoKang Thai Restaurant totally lives up to that.

Inside, the space is simple but cozy, with little Asian touches that instantly make you feel welcome. I popped in for lunch and immediately felt at ease.

They have all the classics—pad Thai, green curry, tom yum soup—and everything I tried felt fresh and flavorful. I went for the green curry, and it was just right: creamy coconut milk without being too heavy, and the spices were perfectly balanced.

The complimentary jasmine rice made the dish feel complete, and the portions are generous enough that you definitely leave full.

They also offer gluten-free options, which is handy if you’re avoiding gluten.

If you’re not dining in, the online ordering system works really smoothly, making takeaway simple and convenient.

The staff are also friendly and approachable, which adds to the welcoming vibe of the place.

One thing to keep in mind is that they don’t serve alcohol, so plan ahead if you were hoping for a drink with your meal.

iMAXX Indian Restaurant & BAR isn’t just another spot to grab a curry—it stands out because of how much variety they pack into their menu.

You don’t often see a place offering everything from street food snacks to full banquets, alongside Indian-Chinese fusion dishes, all while keeping the flavors authentic.

The menu is probably what impressed me most. You’re spoiled for choice—classic mains like butter chicken and lamb rogan josh, plenty of vegetarian curries, seafood dishes, and fusion plates if you’re in the mood for something different.

They also do desserts, kids’ meals, and banquet options, so it works whether you’re dining solo or with a group.

Everything I tried felt like it was cooked with care. The spices were bold but balanced, and you could tell the chefs actually make things from scratch instead of rushing it. The naan came out soft and pillowy, perfect for scooping up curry.

The portion sizes were also generous enough that I had leftovers for the next day.

Plus, they’ve got a loyalty program that gives you points back on what you spend, which makes it tempting to become a regular.

Evenings can get hectic here, so service isn’t always the fastest.
