These 5 Best Kitchen Supplies Stores in New Zealand Have Everything You Need

Product Range: We looked into how wide and varied each store’s selection was, from everyday essentials to specialized tools. We looked for cookware, bakeware, utensils, and professional-grade equipment.

Quality of Products: We evaluated whether the products were durable, reliable, and made with high-quality materials. Stores offering trusted brands and well-crafted items were prioritized.

Pricing and Value: We compared the pricing of items against their quality and market standards. We also considered whether they offered frequent promotions, bundles, or bulk discounts.

Customer Service: We looked into how helpful and knowledgeable they were, both in-store and online. Responsiveness to inquiries and solid after-sales support were both taken into account.

Shopping Experience: We assessed how enjoyable it was to shop in person, from store layout to product displays. Having an online shop or website was considered too – user-friendliness and delivery times were considered.

If you love cooking (like I do), you know one truth: the right kitchen equipment is everything. Ever tried slicing meat with a blunt knife? Mixing dry ingredients in a bowl too small? Trust me, the only thing that leads to is disaster.

With a trusted kitchen supplies store, you know you’ve struck gold. Imagine shopping for brands that you’d normally have to import to New Zealand, or having access to everyday tools through quick online shopping.

If you need kitchen supplies at your fingertips, we have it all here. From boutique stores in Dunedin to large retailers in Auckland, these spots have all the tools to help you cook like a pro (or at least look like one!).

How much do kitchen supplies cost in New Zealand?

The cost of kitchen supplies ranges from $5 to $20 for everyday tools, while mid-range items (e.g., quality pans) range from $30 to $100. Premium cookware and specialty tools can cost anywhere from $150 to $500.

1. The Kitchen Hub

Location: 9/7 Triton Drive, Albany, Auckland 0632

Contact: +6494766857

Opening Hours: Monday – Friday: 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM

Website

The range of equipment at The Kitchen Hub is impressive. We like that they offer a great selection of premium kitchen fittings, sinks, tapware, and accessories. You’ll likely find high-end brands here (e.g., Mercer) not typically available at big-box retailers.

As for the online shopping experience, we have nothing but nice notes. Customer service is quick to respond to queries, and orders are processed efficiently. If the equipment is available locally, delivery times are as fast as 24 hours.

If products aren’t readily available, they can quickly source items, with a lead time of 5 to 10 working days.

For those who prefer shopping in-store, the layout is good, featuring a boutique-like experience. It’s rarely crowded, so browsing through items is easy as you can imagine.

Pricing reflects their boutique positioning, so they lean toward the higher end of the market. With how beautifully polished and packaged each product is, we can say the value for money is great.

The biggest downside, though, is their high restocking fees, which can go up to 25% of an item’s value. This definitely feels excessive for simple order mistakes – we advise reaching out to their customer service to find any alternatives if you face this issue.

Pros

  • Wide selection of premium products
  • Carries many high-end brands
  • Quick responses to customer queries
  • Fast deliveries
  • Able to source faster than chain stores
  • Many items in stock in NZ
  • Boutique-style showroom
  • Careful package for deliveries
  • Good value for money

Cons

  • High restoring feels
  • Limited showroom parking

Trouble-free delivery and communication

“Such easy on-line ordering.  Delivery was trouble-free as was the communication.  I discovered I needed an extra fitting for my taps and within the week the correct part was delivered to my door.   Very good service.”

– Shirley Megget, Google Review

Opening Hours: Monday – Saturday: 9:00 AM – 5:30 PM, Sunday: 10:00 AM – 5:30 PM

This Stevens’ branch in Dunedin (as well as its other locations) is ideal for those looking for high-end kitchenware. They carry pretty much every kitchen equipment, including cookware, knives, appliances, and specialty tools.

We also appreciate that they carry a good mix of international brands, as well as their own exclusive line of cookware. This makes it easy for customers to check out items for both beginner households and experienced chefs.

Their staff are attentive and helpful, always clearly explaining how products work and offering alternatives if certain items are unavailable. If refunds and returns are ever necessary, they offer full support as well.

Pricing varies, but it’s possible to score some good deals here, especially for more common cooking equipment. Certain products, like their glass storage containers, are often sold on promo too.

For the rest of the items, though, the prices feel too high even for considerably premium brands. For casual shoppers, this can be a deal breaker. But if you’re looking for quality products, this is a solid spot.

Pros

  • Wide range of kitchen essentials
  • Hard-to-find specialty tools available
  • Comprehensive cookware selection
  • Options for beginners and professionals
  • Carries many international brands
  • Has their own exclusive line of products
  • Has premium appliances
  • Well-stocked shelves
  • Frequent promotions on basic items
  • Attractive giftware selection
  • Multiple store locations

Cons

  • Some items are expensive
  • Stock availability varies per branch

Opening Hours: Monday – Friday: 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Applewood wins in accessibility alone, with its convenient location right in the CBD. It’s a relatively small space that stocks a decent amount of cookware, bakeware, and specialty tools.

We also love the range of kitchen gadgets that they offer, including garlic presses, mandolins, and pepper mills. According to buyers, the quality is durable, thanks to the trusted brands they carry.

Service is another notable strength. During our visit, the staff were friendly, knowledgeable, and quick to offer advice. If an item isn’t available, the owner even sources the product, which is a personal touch that large retailers often lack.

We also liked that they offer helpful services, such as in-store knife sharpening services.

The pricing was fair for the quality offered. Everyday tools such as chopping boards, tongs, and graters were competitively priced. And if you’re buying online, you may even enjoy up to 15% discounts for orders over $150.

They also offer free delivery on large orders across New Zealand.

That said, several customers reported frustrations around the store’s strict refund and return policies, with a few even claiming that faulty products were not replaced.

    Stocks many trusted brands
    Helpful staff
    Efficient product sourcing

    In-store knife sharpening service

Cons

  • Relatively small size
    Strict refund and return policies
